Immersive HSE: Incident Prevention and HazMat Response
A VR drill that makes safety rules physical habits — including a forklift crash you cannot dodge if you skip the checks.

Context
Reading a manual about a chemical spill does not prepare anyone for one. The client wanted safety rules to become physical habits.
My role
I managed development of a VR simulation in which users must physically perform the safety procedures.
What I did
- Traffic drill. Users must execute “look left, look right, hand signal” before crossing busy zones.
- HazMat response. Active physical engagement: bend down to position absorbent booms, reach to place safety cones, squat to scrub the floor.
- The unavoidable crash. If the user skips a safety check, the virtual forklift cannot be dodged. The impact makes the lesson stick and shows why blind spots are dangerous.
Result
- Better compliance: acting out the steps (isolate, wear gear, clean) makes the correct order easier to recall under pressure.
- A memorable “shock” moment that does more than a textbook page.
