Interactive Dance Performance with Depth Cameras
Choreography that draws the stage: depth-camera tracking turns spins, jumps and poses into real-time generative visuals.

RoleTechnical architect and show supervisor
DomainLive performance, real-time generative visuals
StackDepth-camera arrays, custom real-time rendering
Context
A dance company wanted the choreography itself to generate the stage environment: performer gestures producing visual paint splatters, energy lines and radial bursts in real time.
My role
I designed the technical architecture and visual concept with the ballet leadership and supervised the live show.
What I did
- Built the framework for translating physical choreography into reactive digital art.
- Curated the pipeline of custom tracking software and custom video assets so the graphics reacted to the dancers’ coordinates.
- Worked with the house AV and lighting teams and structured the lighting plot to prevent infrared noise from disturbing the sensors.
- Led technical rehearsals and synchronised dancers’ positions with the tracking zone on stage.
- Supervised the live show from the front-of-house console, monitoring network stability, coordinate streams and visual-to-audio transitions.
Result
- A real-time interactive performance in which spins, jumps and poses drew the stage visuals.
- Delivered live without failures.
